Service Explicit SMS
Plan service messages that rely on explicit consent. MessageIQ helps prepare accounts for assisted activation but does not send SMS.
Start with verifiable, specific consent
For a service-message use case involving explicit consent, document how the recipient directly agreed to receive communication about a specific ongoing purchase or use of the sender’s products or services. Keep the consent method, purpose, source, date and applicable record available for review. A phone number, general customer relationship or old enquiry should not be presented as explicit consent by itself.
Keep the message within its service purpose
Describe the transaction or service the message facilitates, the recipient, the message content and the reason it must be sent. Keep promotional material out: TRAI’s 2025 amendment says promotional content mixed into a transactional or service message makes it promotional. The category name alone does not determine the correct route.
Confirm the current provider process
The 2026 TCCCPR amendment updates the service-message and explicit-consent definitions, including a stated consent period for this service-message route. Check the applicable commencement date, any later direction and your access provider’s DLT process before sending. MessageIQ currently supports account preparation and assisted activation only; it does not collect consent, register templates, classify traffic or send messages. Start with the Bulk SMS overview and the TRAI/DLT checklist.

Prepare a verifiable service-consent brief
Use TechTo Networks’ consent-template and SMS category guides as background, then verify the actual consent record and service-message category with your authorized provider.
Document the permission
Describe the specific service, the recipient’s consent journey, how the consent was verified and recorded, and how revocation will be handled. Confirm current validity periods and provider procedures before any campaign or notification is sent.
Keep the message within the service
Record the transaction or ongoing service that the communication supports. Separate offers and advertising from service content, and ask the provider to confirm the registered template category.

TRAI/DLT considerations for Service Explicit SMS
The regulation describes a service-message route for facilitating an ongoing purchase or use after obtaining Explicit Consent. Confirm that the real message and consent record fit the current rule and provider process.
REVIEWED 18 OCTOBER 2026
Keep consent specific and verifiable
The 2026 amendment updates Explicit Consent to require verification and recording through the Consent Register, or a verifiable method registered according to the Authority’s procedure. Keep evidence tied to the intended service and use case.
Check the consent period and commencement
The amended service-message provision states a seven-day validity period or until customer revocation, whichever is earlier, with renewal at the customer’s instance. Check the applicable commencement date and any later Authority direction before relying on it.
Maintain sender and template controls
Confirm Principal Entity registration, the appropriate registered header and content template, consent records where required, and DLT submission details with the access provider. Do not mix promotional material into a service template.
